Happy New Year – “2006”

Well, the New Year is here and there will be a lot happening in the first four months of 2006.

This is an election year in our local union and the state of Ohio. First, I want to talk about the local union election processes due to changes accepted by our membership and the International Union.

Election(s) will be held April 3, 2006 at the Union Hall. Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m. on April 3rd.

All retirees may vote at the Union Hall on April 3, 2006, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. As a retiree, you may also vote at the Administration Bldg. (lobby) at the Car Plant from Monday, April 3, 2006, 5:00 a.m. to Tuesday, April 4, 2006, 5:00 a.m. (a 24-hour election time frame).

As a retiree, you CANNOT ENTER through the Main Employee’s Entrance any longer.

You will be voting to elect:

  1. The Local Union Executive Board members
  2. Constitutional Convention Delegates
  3. The Retirees’ Executive Board

The second change is the nominating process to seek an elected position. This was approved by the membership and the International Union.

You must submit your nomination in writing to the Chairman of the Election Committee at UAW Local 1112 via CERTIFIED MAIL during the nominating period (between February 26, 2006, and postmarked no later than midnight March 4, 2006).

The nomination must state what office you are seeking and how you want your name to appear on the ballot. THERE WILL NOT BE NOMINATIONS FROM THE FLOOR THE DAY OF OUR MEETING.

These changes should speed up your ability to seek office and vote in the upcoming election. We will have two voting machines at the Union Hall.

The changes in our election procedure are:

  1. Voting at the Union Hall will take place over a longer period (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) on April 3, 2006.
  2. Nominations must be sent to the Chairman of the Election Committee at UAW Local 1112 during the nominating period (February 26, 2006, to midnight March 4, 2006) via CERTIFIED MAIL.
