GM Life Insurance Beneficiary

Recently, in response to certain inquiries, a representative from the GM Benefits and Services Center made an error and advised a retiree that Fidelity did not have their beneficiary information: This is incorrect; all beneficiary information is safe and ,secure. This has been reinforced to all Customer Service Associates who should have advised the following:

  • For those participants who have previously provided beneficiary infor mation on-line to MetLife, the information was automatically transferred, to Fidelity on January 1,2005, and is visible on-line at gmbenefits.com.
  • For those participants who did not have on-line beneficiary designations with MetLife, the hard copy information would need to be retrieved from the facility in Michigan. The information remains valid, in their file, but has not been loaded into the Fidelity system. Upon request, the information would be sent to the participant and should take approxi mately seven to ten business days.
  • Updates to beneficiary information can be done at any' time, on-line, at gmbenefits.com. However, Retirement plans. require a separate form to designate a beneficiary and this form can be requested by contacting the GM Benefits and Services Center.
  • For participants who do not want to designate beneficiaries on-line or are unable to view their beneficiary information on-line, they can request a copy of their beneficiary form to be mailed to them by contacting the GM Benefits & Services Center at 1-800-489-4646. If they submit a paper form, their beneficiary designations/updates will be displayed on http://www.gmbenefits.com after the form is received in good order and processed by Fidelity.
