Late last week your Shop Chairman, Ben Strickland and Vice President, Glenn Johnson were in Detroit in order to hear an overview pertaining to UAW and General Motors. We were informed on many issues relating to our overall direction moving forward. As your Leadership we continue to deliver our message of job security for now and in the future. We continue to work hard so that every member can maintain a job and a secure future here at Lordstown.

Profit Sharing: Just two years after we were rescued and reconstituted through bankruptcy and government loans, General Motors cruised through 2011 to post the largest profits in their history. GM may have a hard time breaking this record in 2012 because of slow sales in Europe and South America. US sales growth has also slowed in the past three months. Even with these slower sales the overall Global Sales performance still earned 7.6 billion dollars for the year, beating the record of 6.7 billion set during the truck boom in 1997.

Dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr National Memorial: The dedication of the Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2011. The dedication promises to be a historic event for the US and nations around the world, as Dr King’s vision and timeless beliefs continue to resonate with people of all lands.

Local 1112 would like to sponsor a bus to Washington for the dedication service. The bus would leave the union hall at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, August 28th and leave Washington at approximately 3:00 p.m. If we get enough members to sign up then we will proceed with plans to go to Washington. You must sign up by August 18th so that we will know how many buses to order. Lunch/snack, water will be provided on the bus. We will not pay lost time to anyone.
